Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.60.0

    • After you watch the newest episode out, the player says when the next one airs.
    • Stats say how long the anime you are watching and planning would take to finish.
    • With a Kioku account, the menu under any activity mutes its notifications, so a busy conversation stops telling you of every reply and reaction.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.60.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.60.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.60.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.60.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.60.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.60.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.60.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.60.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.

    • With a Kioku account, a title's Recommendations are your server's: recommend a title to people who liked this one, and vote recommendations up or down. The members' recommendations come first, then AniList's, and each shows whether it is already in your library.

    • Finishing a title and scoring it is one line on the activity feed ("Completed, rated 8.5"), and a score given soon after, or changed, updates that line instead of adding another.
    • Settings, Comfort has a stronger keyboard focus outline: thicker, and set apart from what it surrounds.

    • On your Kioku server, other people's titles for adults (in the activity feed, on profiles, in libraries, lists, saved lines and playlists) now show only when you chose Show adult titles yourself, as search and the season charts already did. Your own always show.
    • On a phone, the actions of Challenges, Asks, Tier lists, Season bingo and playlists sit under the title instead of squeezing it, and Clubs lists the clubs you are in once.

    • When a search source does not answer (your Kioku server down, say), Discover offers to search AniList instead.
    • On a phone, a profile's Share is an icon so the row of actions fits, and the last Czech strings speak to you informally too.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.53.1-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.53.1-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.53.1-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.53.1-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.53.1-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.53.1-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.53.1-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.53.1-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain.

    • Pin one of your activities to the top of your profile, as on AniList.
    • Editing, pinning and removing your own activity sit behind one button beside it, so the row under each activity keeps to reactions and replies.
