Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.117.0

    • The library file now carries your picks, tier lists, marks on titles, the year's best and the tracks you chose, so moving to another computer with it keeps your ranking.
    • AniList keeps the custom lists you made on its website: a change of lists here adds to them instead of replacing them, lists made there since come into Kioku, and a title added on AniList while Kioku's own add waited is no longer written over.
    • The Kioku server reads your AniList lists and score format before every sync, so a list made on AniList later is no longer dropped.
    • A score kept finer on AniList than the scale it shows now is no longer sent back rounded.
    • The queue gives way to Stop: what it was opening no longer takes the window back. A night offline no longer empties a playlist one error at a time, and an opening that cannot play moves on to the next.
    • Play, pause or a seek while the next episode counts down holds it, End of queue stops after one round on repeat, and openings play at their own speed.
    • On the phone, swipe a pair left or right to pick.
    • Tags that stand for a score suggests your tags named like one (Masterpiece, Loved), a tap each.
    • Manga pages speak of chapters, news names an anime and its manga apart, and a title with fifty tags shows twenty until you ask for the rest.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.117.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.117.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.117.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.117.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.117.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.117.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.117.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.117.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
