Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.128.0

    • A list kept together with your Kioku account keeps what changed on another device: moving titles or editing a note sends only that change, so a title added elsewhere meanwhile, or one your list partner does not see, stays on the list, and adding a title already on a list keeps its note.
    • A list made from a title's page is yours until you share it, and someone you are no longer friends with, or who blocked you, can no longer change a list you kept together.
    • Moving a list to your account says first when it is too big for it, leaves nothing half made when it fails, and says which titles stayed on this computer.
    • Taking a title off a list can be undone, note and place back.
    • The owner of a list kept together with a friend can end it with that friend, keeping the list.
    • Taste's voice actors and staff count the titles you ranked by picking, not only those with a score.
    • Watch again on Home offers one title of a franchise, from its first season, none of it while you rewatch one, and no title you finished rewatching within the year.
    • Discover's rows from your Kioku server say where you stand with titles you already have, and on a phone show the first rows until you ask for more.
    • Importing a long list file no longer comes back with "found none of the titles" when looking titles up on AniList takes too long: what was found comes in, the titles not looked up yet are listed apart, and importing the same file again after applying moves on to them.
    • A library file from your old computer offers to bring your picks and tier lists even when every title is already here, says which kept data stays as it is, brings list titles that are not in your library, and keeps the day each title was added.
    • Spreadsheets import as people write them: a list with chapters is read as manga, a progress column beside the episode count is the progress, dates like 23.10.2026 come in, and a tag with a comma stays one tag.
    • File imports never set progress past a title's length, read a title listed twice as one, use the spelling of tags you already have, do not tell friends about every title, and keep the preview to apply again if applying fails.
    • The MyAnimeList export says how many titles had no MyAnimeList ID and were left out, and a MyAnimeList file chosen under Import another tracker's list goes to its own import.
    • Close friends end with the friendship: a former friend no longer sees what you share only with close friends. A block also ends their part in your watch parties.
    • Friends hear that you watched the same episode or took up their recommendation only for titles you share with them, and a paused account's library stays hidden from others.
    • Notifications from someone you blocked, or who blocked you, no longer show in the bell, and a message on a friend's profile can be edited.
    • A forum reply quoting a post with spoilers is folded as far as that post.
    • Posts and messages on profiles can be reported, and moderators can take them down; a message written on a profile kept for friends no longer shows in everyone's feed.
    • For whoever runs a Kioku server: the changes to lists kept with the account and to the community need the server updated.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.128.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.128.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.128.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.128.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.128.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.128.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.128.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.128.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
