Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.129.0

    • Seasons from your Kioku server show where each title streams again, so "On my services" works, and the note that AniList did not answer shows only when it did not.
    • A season you looked at stays available when neither your Kioku server nor AniList answers.
    • The coming season's leftovers leave out shows that end before it starts.
    • In the season deck, Trailer opens with a mouse too, a card planned or skipped by mistake can be taken back from the deck, skipped cards stay skipped when the source changes, and Add on a season card has Undo.
    • Adding a title from Seasons works during an AniList outage, from your Kioku server.
    • Sorting a season by studio counts each studio's whole season, so studios no longer jump as more cards load.
    • Past seasons count the titles you added while they were on, not your whole backlog, and say how many are paused or not started.
    • The week planner keeps to what you watch and what you plan from the season shown.
    • Covers of titles for adults are blurred on season cards, in the deck and in the calendars as you set, and seasons follow a change of that setting at once.
    • What your friends plan shows in your title language, and Kioku's mean score reads 7,5 in Slovak and Czech.
    • For whoever runs a Kioku server: the streaming services on season cards need the server updated.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.129.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.129.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.129.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.129.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.129.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.129.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.129.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.129.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
