Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.132.0

    • Going through Planning as cards: a title you kept comes back after three months, your Up next tags come first to put a card among what to watch soon with one tap, and the buttons no longer move while the synopsis loads.
    • The library filter keeps titles that are airing, finished or not out yet, any of the three.
    • A planned title's card says when it is airing or upcoming.
    • Holding a planned title on a phone offers Remove, and Home's pick from Planning can remove a title too, both with Undo.
    • Home's link to the rest of your Up next tags opens all of them, and those titles follow the order of your tags.
    • Filtering the library by two or more tags can keep titles with any of them, not only all of them; the filter's chips then read "or".
    • On a phone or tablet, buttons and fields are bigger to tap without asking (Settings, Comfort turns that off for the device alone), and tapping a text field no longer zooms the page in.
    • A title's episodes on a phone take one line each: discuss, skip, watch again, mark as and add to queue wait behind the "..." at the row's end, and the tick keeps its size.
    • A title from your library shows your entry before the synopsis on a phone, and your tags follow the score.
    • On a phone the library hides status tabs without titles, the filters scroll as one with your own tags first, and Home's Up next shows four titles with Show all.
    • Rank on a phone starts with the two titles to pick from; the Stats pages have a help button that explains the picks.
    • Kioku installed on a phone shows one Back on a title page.
    • Titles without a banner picture keep a plain top; choose Cover colour under Appearance for a band in the cover's colour.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.132.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.132.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.132.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.132.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.132.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.132.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.132.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.132.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
