Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.133.0

    • Fewer notices that change nothing: a title is told as come to a streaming service once it stayed half a day, as gone once it stayed away three days, and a title that comes, goes and comes back is told once. Sequels and adaptations are told only while they are new; older ones stay on Home's sequels shelf.
    • Going through Planning as cards goes on where you left off on your other devices: the titles you kept are kept with your account.
    • Seasons says which title of your library a show follows, its sequels of what you saw come first in the deck, the filters can keep only those, and the deck's title opens its page. A show already out can be started from the deck.
    • A list of openings or trailers passes over one that will not play and goes on with the next; when the site with the video does not answer, Kioku says so.
    • Best of your Planning in Explore leaves out what is not out yet.
    • Stats for those who judge by tags and picks rather than scores: with few scores, Your verdicts shows your finished titles by the lists that stand for a score and by their tier in your picks, Your year and Your month count the titles you loved where a mean of a few scores said nothing, and your picks order the titles of one list.
    • Your year comes right after the totals and starts its best with the ones you chose under Rank; the episode log and the year of changes moved to Calendar, the reasons for dropping to Taste.
    • On a phone, Rank is in sight in the Stats tabs, and Rank and Taste keep their switches to one row.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.133.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.133.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.133.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.133.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.133.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.133.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.133.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.133.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
