Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.134.0

    • Home asks less of you: a title you told "Not now" in Gone quiet stays away until it changes, an unset goal can be put away with No goals, and the pair to pick from passes on Can't choose.
    • Where you score few titles, Waiting for a score places a finished title among your picks instead of offering a score menu, Stats no longer puts the hundred-scores milestone among the next ones, and You and the average uses what your tags and picks stand for.
    • Up next puts the planned titles you can start before those still to come, and its rows no longer offer to add what is already there.
    • Home's quiet mode keeps Airing this week, and the explanations under Up next, Gone quiet and Almost finished moved into their headings.
    • On a phone the library's quick views show your presets, and pinning a view saves it as a preset you find on every device.
    • Taste's offer to count your rating-like lists as scores can be turned down.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.134.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.134.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.134.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.134.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.134.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.134.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.134.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.134.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
