Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.138.0

    • Schedule fades a row once you watched its episode, not once it aired, so what is out and still to watch stands out; planned titles no longer look like the ones you follow, and Only my list stays as you left it.
    • The library tags a title from its row (right click, T, or its card on a phone where scores are few), and with few scores the tags take the score's column.
    • Selected titles show their tags as chips that say which of them have each: a tap gives a tag to all of them or takes it off, and the chips stay open for the next. Tag every title shown opens the same chips, and saved views sit inside the filters on a computer too.
    • Bringing in your AniList history reads past AniList's limit of 5000 activities: run it again to add the rest.
    • Sequel news tells only of sequels and of anime of what you read or manga and novels of what you watched, not of a manga's light novel, and not again when the records change source. A finished title's page offers its next season with Add to Planning, the notice offers it too and is read once the sequel is in your library, Home lists the sequels of what you liked most first, and news of what you watch comes before news of what you only plan.
    • Favourites stay as you leave them: one removed on your phone or undone at once no longer comes back from AniList, and hearts show an Undo or a change made on another device.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.138.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.138.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.138.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.138.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.138.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.138.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.138.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.138.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
