Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.150.0

    • Recommended for you draws on more of what you loved: the seasons and films of one franchise count once, and one title brings at most three picks.
    • Notices told once: a week off and the delay that made it are one notice, and a planned title with a bell starting is told as its premiere. A week off comes after the episode before it.
    • Notices are kept rather than lost: a channel that failed gets them when it answers again, a device that takes episodes gets the daily digest, and a bell's new season reaches your phone. The website's bell no longer shows them twice.
    • A muted title is left out of every notice, its streaming services, season lists and sequels too; far behind applies to dubs and breaks.
    • You counts the anime and books you began or finished, as Stats does, shows reached achievements in a line, and keeps Profiles folded when you have one.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.150.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.150.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.150.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.150.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Linux x64, Flatpak Kioku-2.150.0-linux-x64.flatpak flatpak install --user Kioku-2.150.0-linux-x64.flatpak (GNOME's runtime comes from Flathub), then open Kioku from the application menu. It opens the same library as the archive. Inside it the window is always WebKitGTK and Kioku's own player cannot reach mpv (episodes open in your default player); a folder outside Videos, Downloads and Kioku's own needs flatpak override --user --filesystem=<folder> space.toxik.Kioku.
Browser extension Kioku-2.150.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.150.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.150.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.150.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
