Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga and light novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl and Bangumi, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.20.0

Your Kioku server does more on its own, and is easier to run.

    • Your Kioku server can keep your AniList or MyAnimeList list in step with your library by itself, so it syncs even if you only use the website or your phone. Nothing is removed on either side without asking you.
    • Friends on other Kioku servers: add them by their handle, like haruka@kioku.example, see what they watched lately and send them messages.
    • Undo a bad day: see what changed in your library since any moment of the last 90 days and bring titles back as they were, from the website.
    • A weekly copy of your account, kept on the server for download, with an email when it is ready if you like.
    • The website imports Kitsu libraries, Simkl and Anime-Planet exports and CSV lists.
    • Discord webhooks: a channel hears when your friends finish a title, or when your club plans a watch party.
    • Catalog reviewers can merge two entries that are the same title, keeping everyone's entries, ratings and lists.
    • On Wi-Fi, the website keeps the covers of your whole library, so it looks right on your phone without signal.
    • For whoever runs a server: charts of new members and activity on the admin page, a notice when a new release is out, a public status page, health checks for Nginx Proxy Manager and Uptime Kuma, metrics for Prometheus, backups copied to S3, WebDAV or another machine, a ready-made image on git.toxik.space, and a one-line install.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.20.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.20.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.20.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.20.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.20.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.20.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.20.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.20.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
