Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga and light novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl and Bangumi, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.25.0

The library on the computer works the way you want it to.

    • Right-click any cover or row for open, open in a new window, every status, score, the episode, a list, select and remove. Hold a cover on the phone, or press p, to see its card with +1, status and score.
    • Click the progress on a card or row and type the episode you are on.
    • Type filters into the library search: anime 2023 score>8 unwatched, studio:mappa, #cozy. The words Kioku understands show as chips, and the rest still searches titles.
    • Settings > Library: what cards show under the title (status, score, progress, next episode, airing day or nothing), a second title under the main one, your own colours for the statuses (two sets work with colour blindness), and statuses of your own such as Waiting for the dub.
    • The table's columns can be chosen and ordered, and Shift and a click sorts by a second column.
    • Settings > Keyboard changes any shortcut and names clashes; ? now lists only the keys of the page you are on.
    • Long lists get a jump bar by letter, year, score or month, the library comes back to where you left it, and a filter keeps titles changed today, this week or this month.
    • Select titles to set their dates together, or two of them to compare side by side. Hover a cover for its synopsis, keep the title beside the list on a wide screen, open titles in a window of their own, and print the library or a list.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.25.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.25.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.25.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.25.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.25.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.25.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.25.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.25.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
