Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga and light novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl and Bangumi, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.26.0

Kioku looks and feels the way you like, on each device or the same on all of them.

    • The theme can follow the time of day: light from sunrise to sunset where you are, or between hours you choose.
    • Settings > Comfort: less motion, bigger touch targets, no scores anywhere, dots instead of numbers on the bell and tabs, a quiet Home with only what is next, rest reminders after a long while, and a style of your own in CSS. Covers of titles for adults are blurred until you show them, and that can be turned off.
    • Settings > Appearance has an easy-to-read font and one made for dyslexia, and rounded, square or shadowed covers. Turn on sharing and your look follows your account to your other devices, while any device can keep a look of its own.
    • Titles can show in a different language per kind, such as romaji for anime and English for manga, and the library grid has a larger cover size for big screens.
    • Your Kioku account's settings are now under Settings > Account, so every choice is in one place.
    • Kioku servers start translating German, Polish, Spanish and Japanese with their members: Settings > General shows how far each is and lets you offer to help. Right-to-left languages turn the whole layout around.
    • A short hint shows the first time you use the library and a few other pages, once.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.26.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.26.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.26.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.26.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.26.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.26.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.26.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.26.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
