    Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga and light novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl and Bangumi, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    Kioku on the phone, within reach of a thumb.

    • Home opens at once with your library as it was last time and updates from there. On the phone it starts with today's episodes, and after a few days away with what changed: new episodes, notifications and what your friends did.
    • Swipe a row right for +1 or left for its status. Pull the library down at its top to search, with your last searches as chips. Smaller rows fit long libraries.
    • Episode notifications can be put off for an hour or until the evening from the notification itself.
    • Settings > Comfort > On the phone: pick the five places of the bottom bar, what the number on the home screen icon counts, a data saver for mobile data, and one-handed use, which moves the top bar and the library's controls down to your thumb.
    • Title pages close with a swipe down, show the cover full screen with zoom, and lay out side by side when the phone is held sideways.
    • Changes made without a connection are listed by title, to send now or drop.
    • Tap the top bar to go back to the top of a page. Installed on the home screen, Kioku has a back button of its own, and after a few visits it offers to install, with the steps on iPhones.
    • A slider picks the episode when you add a title, a buzz answers each episode marked (a longer one when a title is done), and forms move to the next field with the keyboard's own key.

    Download and first start

    Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.27.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
    macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.27.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
    Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.27.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.27.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
    Browser extension Kioku-2.27.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.27.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).

    SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

    To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.
