Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga and light novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl and Bangumi, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.28.0

    Tracking, your way.

    • Rank: pick the better of two titles until your ranking builds itself, make tier lists and share them as a picture, keep the best of each year, and spread your scores over the whole scale (with the old ones a click away). Open it from Stats or You.
    • Episodes can be skipped (recaps and fillers count nowhere, and progress steps over them) or counted again when you rewatch a favourite. On a Kioku server, members mark which episodes are filler, recap or canon, and a title offers to skip the fillers.
    • Each title can hold a month to watch it again, why you started it, and a hold until its last episode is out; Home reminds you of both. Webtoons can count episodes instead of chapters.
    • Notes show lists, links, bold and spoilers, and all of them gather on a Notes page you can search.
    • Paste a list of names from anywhere into the library: each line is looked up and the unsure ones ask which title you meant.
    • A title of your own joins the catalog's title once it exists, keeping progress, dates and notes. Missing start and finish dates fill in from when you marked episodes. A title's page lists its own changes with undo, and every title a filter shows can take a tag at once.
    • Cards can show the community's average next to your score, progress out of the episodes aired so far, and how many times you watched a title. Franchises can count specials apart. Goals add a season challenge and hours a week.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.28.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.28.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.28.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.28.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.28.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.28.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.28.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.28.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
