It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl and Bangumi, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

Finding what to watch and read next.
- Discover asks what you feel like: light, cosy, a good cry, tense, scary and more, each a set of genres and tags. With a Kioku account, In the story finds titles by what happens in them, such as time loop or cooking. Pick one of these chooses at random from any search, and results show an anime's whole watching time.
- Explore, a new tab of Discover (and a place you can add to the sidebar):
- starter paths of ten titles in an easy order, for newcomers or a genre;
- your Planning ranked by how well each title fits your scores, saying why;
- series ready to binge;
- every tag with what it means and how many of its titles you have seen;
- award winners by year, kept by your server's moderators.
- From your Kioku server: what your friends rated highest that you have not seen, next season's most planned, and hidden gems of a genre you like. Every pick says why it is there.
- A title's page shows other works by the same director, writer or composer, and for an anime of a manga or novel, the chapter where the anime stops, as members say.
- Home lists paused or dropped titles you were close to finishing. Schedule marks and filters finales. Seasons can group the season by studio. Top charts say how many you have seen. The library's More menu picks a random title from what it shows.
- You hear when a manga or novel you read gets an anime, and when an anime you watched gets a manga or novel (Settings > Notifications > Sequels and adaptations).
