Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga and light novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl and Bangumi, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.31.0

More for watching and reading on your own computers.

    • Kioku's player has a More menu: a sleep timer (after some minutes or at the end of the episode), a small window that stays on top, a clip of the episode saved to your downloads, and reactions at a moment that friends with a Kioku account see at the same moment later.
    • Frames you take in mpv (press S) are kept with the title and shown on its page.
    • Preview frames on the seek bar, a question before going on after a number of episodes in a row, and a gentle word when the day's watching passes a limit you set.
    • Sharper pictures with Anime4K, downloaded once when you choose a preset (Settings > Player and files).
    • Your phone works as a remote for the player on the computer, and episode files play on a TV that takes videos (DLNA), with progress kept.
    • An episode stopped on one computer starts at the same minute on your other computers, and the website's title page says where you stopped.
    • Reading:
      • Light novels read aloud by your system's voices, with the words marked as they go.
      • Furigana on or off, Japanese books top to bottom, a reading ruler, and dark pages after a time you choose.
      • Highlights and notes saved as Markdown, and a page or chapter a number away (G).
      • Comics panel by panel on phones, and text PDFs set again for small screens.
      • Home shows today's reading and your streak; Stats shows your usual sitting, and the reader says when you reach it.
    • Every volume's cover of a manga or light novel, with the ones you read and own marked, and side stories placed among the main series' volumes.
    • Fix a book's series, volume and chapter when its file name says them wrong, and import your Mihon or Tachiyomi backup with the chapters you read.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.31.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.31.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.31.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.31.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.31.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.31.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.31.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.31.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
