Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.45.0

The parts that were only half there.

    • Titles AniList does not know (visual novels, and titles only on Kitsu, AniDB or MangaBaka) have their community, cast and staff, recommendations, openings and endings, and next episode, from Kioku's database.
    • Shared lists and titles carry their VNDB, Kitsu or MangaBaka ID, so a friend's Kioku opens and adds them.
    • Discover with Kioku's database keeps a studio's and a person's works, finds characters, staff and studios, and Trending is what members keep. The members' top chart has year, genre and tag.
    • On the website, Undo after removing a title works, and a title has one page wherever its link comes from.
    • Removing a streaming link you shared takes it back from the server too, and Settings, Reading chooses how books open.
    • For servers: admins hand out a link to set a new password when the server sends no mail, dub notices say when the server has no AnimeSchedule token, and chapters and dubs are jobs under Server, Catalog, every job with a name.

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.45.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.45.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.45.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.45.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.45.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.45.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.45.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.45.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
