Kioku is a tracker for anime, manga, light novels and visual novels that runs on your own computer. It is made first for Windows and works on macOS and Linux too. Your library lives in a database on your computer, syncs with AniList, MyAnimeList, AniDB, Kitsu, MangaBaka, Shikimori, Simkl, Bangumi and VNDB, sends to Trakt, plays your episodes in mpv or follows the player you already use, reads your manga and light novels, and lets you watch together with friends. Kioku speaks English, Slovak and Czech.

    New in 2.69.0

    • Kioku servers tell their admins when a catalog job fails three runs in a row, in the bell, on the phone and by email, with the error and a link to Server, Catalog.
    • The server reads again from AniList the anime whose records look wrong next to what members watched, including shows kept as airing with no next episode time, and Server, Catalog says how many are left.
    • Behind on airing says how many episodes there are to catch up on and about how long they take.
    • The time machine, cinema visits, dates for many titles and an episode's watched day use Kioku's own calendar instead of the browser's date field.
    • Settings, Data has one heading and text style for every section and a shorter import line.
    • Rank, Best of your Planning and the tag explorer say Light novels, and their explanation sits above the switch on phones.
    • The server's catalog lists no longer say a kind twice, as in "Light novel · Light novel".

    Download and first start

    System File First start
Windows 10 and 11 Kioku-2.69.0-windows.zip Unzip it and double-click Kioku.exe. Kioku is not code signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway. Kioku adds itself to the Start menu.
macOS 12 and later Kioku-2.69.0-macos.zip Move Kioku to Applications and open it. It is not notarized, so the first time open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Linux x64 and arm64 Kioku-2.69.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-2.69.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz Extract and run ./kioku. Kioku adds itself to the application menu.
Browser extension Kioku-2.69.0-extension-chromium.zip, Kioku-2.69.0-extension-firefox.zip Chromium-based browsers: unzip, open the extensions page, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: about:debugging > This Firefox > Load Temporary Add-on (Developer Edition and Nightly can keep it for good).
Kioku server (Linux x64 and arm64) Kioku-server-2.69.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, Kioku-server-2.69.0-linux-arm64.tar.gz For your own Kioku server with docker or podman: curl -fsSL https://git.toxik.space/Toxuki/kioku/raw/branch/main/deploy/install.sh | bash -s -- --domain your.domain, or extract the archive and run ./kioku.sh install --domain your.domain. Its README.md covers Nginx Proxy Manager, the firewall, updates and backups.

SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of every file. Kioku opens in a window of its own (WebView2 on Windows; on Linux WebKitGTK, or a Chromium-based browser's app window with NVIDIA graphics or without WebKitGTK; the default browser as a last resort). To connect AniList, open Services, choose Connect on AniList and approve: nothing else to set up. The first sync is always a preview that changes nothing until you apply it.

To play episodes in Kioku's own player, install mpv; or keep the player you have and let Kioku follow it. Everything else Kioku needs comes with it or installs itself.

Everything Kioku does and good to know: the full notes. Earlier releases: all notes.
